Linda Gray Looks Back at Embarrassing ‘Beauty Blunder’ With Elizabeth Taylor
Hollywood is full of glamorous stories, but the best ones often come from moments that go completely wrong. Actress Linda Gray recently shared one of those unforgettable memories, proving that even television icons have embarrassing days.
The 85-year-old “Dallas” star opened up about a beauty mistake she made during an unexpected lunch with screen legend Elizabeth Taylor. Speaking on the June 28, 2026, episode of the “Celebrity Drop” podcast, Gray looked back on the moment with laughter.
The story began with a surprise phone call. A mutual friend, who happened to be an interior decorator working on Elizabeth Taylor’s home, called Gray with very little notice. He explained that he and Taylor were on their way to Santa Barbara and planned to stop by for lunch.
Gray suddenly had about 45 minutes to get everything ready. She rushed to prepare food, tidy the house, and make herself presentable. Like anyone caught off guard, she focused more on welcoming her guests than on perfecting her appearance.
“I thought I’d just throw on some moisturizer and lipstick,” Gray recalled during the “Celebrity Drop” podcast. It sounded like the perfect shortcut at the time. Unfortunately, that quick decision would lead to one of the funniest beauty mistakes of her life.
Instead of reaching for moisturizer, Gray grabbed a peel-off facial mask by accident. She applied it without realizing her mistake, greeted her famous guests, and spent the entire lunch chatting while the mask slowly dried and peeled across her face.
The Beauty Blunder Nobody Mentioned

Linda / IG / Gray had absolutely no idea something was wrong. During lunch, she noticed the interior decorator and his assistant making small gestures toward the side of her mouth.
The “Models Inc.” icon assumed she had a crumb or some food stuck to her face. “I kept dabbing with my napkin,” she explained. “Then they pointed to the other side.” The repeated gestures left her confused, but she still never suspected her skincare mix-up.
The lunch continued without anyone saying a word. Elizabeth Taylor remained warm, polite, and completely unfazed. She never pointed out the peeling mask or made Gray feel uncomfortable, even though it was clearly visible throughout the meal.
Only after everyone had left for Santa Barbara did Gray finally catch her reflection in the mirror. She immediately realized what had happened. “I looked in the mirror and thought, ‘Oh my God,'” Gray recalled. “The mask was rolling off my face the whole time.”
The Grace of Elizabeth Taylor

Taylor FP / IG / Elizabeth Taylor handled it with remarkable kindness. Rather than pointing out Gray’s mistake, the “Cleopatra” icon allowed her hostess to enjoy the afternoon without unnecessary embarrassment.
That simple act of grace left a lasting impression. Taylor understood that calling attention to the mistake would only make Gray feel worse. Sometimes saying nothing is the kindest response, and Taylor clearly knew that.
Gray has spoken warmly about Taylor ever since. What could have become an uncomfortable meeting instead became the beginning of a genuine friendship. Their connection grew naturally, built on laughter, respect, and shared stories.
The pair even developed playful nicknames for each other. Gray affectionately called Taylor a “bawdy broad,” a phrase that reflected the actress’s lively personality and fearless sense of humor.
Taylor responded with her own unforgettable nickname. She jokingly referred to Gray as “the bitch with the long legs.” It was the kind of teasing that only close friends could appreciate, and both women clearly enjoyed the playful banter.
